In an unexpected but delightful twist for retro gaming fans, Farming Simulator has officially been released as physical cartridge for the Sega Mega Drive/Genesis in 2025. Developed by GIANTS Software, this new title brings the modern farming experience to the classic 16-bit console – decades after its original heyday.
The game runs on original Mega Drive hardware and features surprisingly smooth visuals, detailed pixel art, and simplified mechanics adapted for the console’s limitations. While it doesn’t match the complexity of its modern PC and console counterparts, it delivers a faithful and charming farming experience with plowing, sowing, and harvesting – all within the limits of a retro cartridge.
According to GIANTS Software, this project was created as a tribute to the farming sim genre and retro gaming culture. Physical cartridges have been released in limited quantities, with collectors and fans of both Farming Simulator and Sega celebrating the unexpected crossover.
Three physical editions of the game have been produced. The Retail Edition features a classic black cartridge and is still available for order. The Deluxe Edition, which includes a distinctive green cartridge and bonus packaging content, is also available for purchase. Meanwhile, the Limited Edition—also with a green cartridge and released in very small quantities—has already sold out due to high demand from collectors and fans.
